Subscription manager FAQ

Direct answers about subscriptions and the apps that manage them — including the parts that are inconvenient for us to say. If a question here is missing, email hello@byebill.app and we will add it.

About subscriptions in general

How do I find subscriptions I forgot I am paying for?

Open a full year of card and bank statements and search for the same amount repeating on a similar date each month. Then check the three places subscriptions hide outside your bank:

  • Apple:Settings → your name → Subscriptions
  • Google Play: Payments and subscriptions
  • PayPal: Automatic payments

This costs nothing and takes about twenty minutes. An app automates the same job and repeats it every month, which is the part almost nobody keeps up by hand.

Do subscription manager apps actually cancel subscriptions for you?

Most do not. The majority find and track recurring charges and then hand you instructions, which you carry out yourself. A few genuinely cancel on your behalf: Pine AI and Kudos use agents that contact the company for you, and Rocket Money cancels through its paid concierge. Read the wording carefully before paying — several apps advertise one-tap cancelling and deliver a set of instructions.

Is it safe to connect my bank account to a subscription app?

Reputable apps connect through a bank data provider with read-only access, so the app can see transactions but cannot move money. The questions worth asking are what happens to that data, whether it is sold or shared, and how you disconnect. If an app will not answer those in plain language, do not connect it. If you are not comfortable with any bank connection, use an app that lets you add subscriptions by hand.

Why do subscription scanners miss some of my subscriptions?

Because they read a limited window of transactions and look for a repeating pattern. Annual and semi-annual renewals often fall outside that window, and charges billed through Apple, Google or PayPal can appear under one merchant name that hides what is underneath. That is why the expensive yearly renewal is the one most likely to be missed. Whatever app you use, check its list against a full year of statements once.

What is the cheapest way to track subscriptions?

A spreadsheet and a calendar reminder, at no cost — if you actually maintain it. Beyond that, a one-time purchase tracker such as Bobby costs a couple of dollars but needs manual entry, while apps that find charges automatically start around seven dollars a month. Avoid weekly billing plans in this category; they are the most expensive way to buy the same thing.

About ByeBill

What is ByeBill?

ByeBill is a subscription manager for people in the United States, built by Skalb, Inc. It finds the recurring charges you have forgotten, shows every subscription and what it costs per month in one plain list, reminds you before a renewal, and gives you exact step-by-step instructions to cancel. It is designed to be simple enough to use at any age: large text, one screen, one number that matters.

Does ByeBill cancel subscriptions for me?

No. ByeBill shows you every subscription and gives you the exact steps to cancel each one — you press the buttons. We chose this deliberately: you always know what was cancelled and what was kept, because you did it. If you want a service that cancels on your behalf, including phoning a gym, look at Pine AI or Kudos instead.

How much does ByeBill cost?

One price, monthly or yearly, shown to you before you pay. No weekly plans, no hidden fees, and we never take a percentage of the money you save. Final pricing is published at launch. Cancelling ByeBill itself takes two taps — an app about unwanted subscriptions has no business being hard to leave.

Is ByeBill available yet?

Not yet. The app has not launched, and this site currently collects a waiting list. If you need a subscription manager today, the free tier of Rocket Money is the most capable option that costs nothing.

Does ByeBill need access to my bank?

Only if you want automatic detection, and only with your permission. You can also add subscriptions by hand in a few seconds. Whatever you connect, your data is encrypted, we do not sell it, and you choose what to connect and what to leave out. What we collect on this website today is listed in our privacy policy.

How is ByeBill different from Rocket Money?

Rocket Money is a full financial assistant — budgets, credit monitoring, and a paid concierge that cancels for you — with the strongest detection in the category. ByeBill does one job: show every subscription plainly and tell you exactly how to cancel it. We do not cancel on your behalf and we never take a cut of your savings. If you want the full dashboard, Rocket Money is the better fit. The full comparison covers the rest of the field.

Want to be told when it launches? Join the waiting list— one email, nothing else, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
